I think that we shouldn’t teach children to read till if they are not interested in reading. On the beginning of our life, for the first six years, first of all, the child develops physically, and it is the physical stimulation that effects on intellectual development. Good time to start learning to read is in kindergarten. Because children can do this consciously.

Generally, there are many opinions about when children should start learning to read and write. Many people argue that it should start even before going to school, others argue that there should be consistency between children and their peers and therefore we must all start from the beginning together. Of course, this is not easy to place because each child comes from diafoteriki family and every family has different principles and believe in their children. There are many families that teach children about the writing or reading before xenikisoun the school, thinking that will help them be better and more quickly to cope with the lessons. In this way, children are actually faster than the rest of the class, which now begin to learn reading and writing, but there are some problems. These parents have not thought that their children this way, if you can get bored at the time of course if the goods have been taught. Knowing of protairon, reading and writing, or at least the two of them do this more quickly than other students and there is a lapse for them on other students. In my opinion this can not be banned. Not prohibit parents to teach children about what they want their age because they want will always want the best for their children.

I think children should begin reading as soon as possible! It should start as a toddler at home. Parents should read simple books to their children and get them to sound the words and show them what the words look like. The sooner a child begins this process the better in my opinion.
Professor Lilian Katz stated in 2007 that “Pushing reception pupils too hard could put them off for life, especially boys” However, by encouraging young children to read should not be pushing them but introducing new words at their own pace. It is acceptable if a child struggles to read before the age of six however this is no reason to keep them away from reading when their capabilities cannot be known.
I cannot see any valid argument to withhold a child from reading until six years old.
Mairi McAslan
Totally agree with you!
Regards. José M. Bautista.
I think that it is not really important that children start to learn how to read when they are three years old. It is important that parents communicate with their children from the earliest age to help them to develop basic language and communication skills which will prepare them to learn how to read. Language is the basis for the development of reading, so it is very important that parents seek every opportunity to talk with their children. Also they should sing songs to them and read them books for children with animations what will bring children closer to the language and what will enable them to experience reading as a positive experience.

To teach children to read is not an easy task but the i think it’s even more difficult to keep the interest alive. We learn different methods and gives students various opportunities to broaden their options. I have often seen the curiosity and spark that lights up a child when the crack the code of reading and the litteratury world openeds before them. It is important that we teach children to read but even more important to capture the students interest and allow it to spark enthusiasm for the future. Certainly, we must give our students the opportunity and altenernatives but also be sure to give them challenges so they can keep their spark alive.

I find it is not so easy to choose in which age we should start to teach our children reading. It depends on the child with whom we manage. Supposedly it is never too early to begin teaching our child to read, or at least laying the foundation for early literacy skills but we can destroy his childhood by ‘bombardment’ him with all this informations. If we decide to start teaching it should be an enjoyable activity for children - not a chore. In that case I can agree that it would be better for child to start learning reading at the age of 3, but still we should be careful with it. n the other hand if our child does not demonstrate the wish to learn or is fussy we should not force him to read and then the best option is to observe him to choose the best moment to start.

Starting to teach children how to read at an early age than six seems to be a good idea in my opinion. I think it would be great if in kindergarden the children would start with this reading education. Appropriate for their age of course and only if there exists an interest.
This would be a perfect preparation for school. Depending on the children´s interests and skills they should definitely be supported at any age. If a child is not interested in learning how to read it would be senseless to force it to learn how to read before school. But if there is an interest and the child wants to learn it, it should get a possibility to do so. When the children start school the teachers anyway have to differentiate and individualize referring to each child´s reading skills.

I think that reading books enriches our life tremendously, and the earlier children starts reading the better for him/her. Certainly, this process is of individual nature, and it depends on many factors: the income of the family, child’s personal development, environment that he/she lives in, etc.
We are all have different pace in our development as well as different life conditions and circumstances, the main point is not to rush this process as sometimes by trying to make children love to read, parents achieve the opposite effect: children start hate books. And, let’s not forget Einstein’s example who is known to fail to talk until the age of four; it is also claimed that Einstein could not read until the age of nine. Everything comes in its time.

Reading is very important part of one’s life. I think that the process of teaching children to read should start at the age of three. I think, that at that age they are already capable to recognize the letters and, moreover, to put together some easy words. At first it should be introduced as a game, and later, if a child is interested, it should be carried out further.
Personally I learned to read at the age of four and I am really happy about it. I was able to read children’s books to myself and other children. Moreover, I believe that this helped me to develop quite a good visual memory.
Reda Gedutyte
Childhood should be for playing, people can work the whole life. Teaching letters or reading to a child should be like a game, not something you-must-learn-now. It also depends of a child when she/he is ready. If they are stable enough and interested, then of course parents should use the opportunity as soon as possible but I dont think there is a probleem when a three year old child can not read. Everything will come in right time.

I must admit I have never really heard of anyone debating when a child should begin to read. In Northern Ireland, it is seen as such a positive aspect of a child’s lives. One which I agree should begin as early as possible, yet this is up to the parent. As the first educators of their child, they bare such a responsibility, a power that be untouched. However, this brings such a difficultly as educational tools such as books and toys are rather expensive. Money, that in today’s economic climate is scare and limited. Yet, if it is proving that children from the age one is this not the purpose of the government to help our citizens? There are literacy programmes employed in the UK to ensure all adults can read, thus should this not be the seem for the young? Surely , if we place more attention into educating children at a young age then there will be no need for adult literacy classes and for that matter as children have already been introduced to reading, the teacher will be able to help children thrive and develop.

This article is about significant issue which is when we should teach children to read. Author claims that everything that can be learned by children from an early age remain as founding value for the future and I think he’s right. He also agree with Glenn Doman words that child can read at the age 3 and even less so he is for teaching children to read until 6 years old and I also think it’s a good idea.
Michał Szmyd
There should be no age limit upon when a child learns how to read or is introduced to literature. Children should be given the opportunity to experience the written word from birth, (i.e. bedtime stories etc), rather than placing the focus upon the child learning how to read at age6 or earlier. I believe the main focus should be immersing children with literature from as young as possible, so they develop a love of the written and spoken word, thus cementing the foundations for the teacher to build upon. However, the article did interest me when addressing the issue of children being capable of reading from such an early age. I feel, if this is true of some children, then they should not be held back, rather encouraged. Overall, the main point not to loose sight of is the need to introduce reading as a pleasurable, interesting and non-stressful experience in the initial stages.
Parents don’t need to force their children to start learning how to read before 5 or 6 years. Sometimes parents want to heal their complexes on the children and then they load their children with too many activities, foreign languages, books and everything. They should leave their children to play, to discover what they really like and want and then encourage them in their choices. Parents should just try their best to develop logical thinking skills with their children.

When to teach children to read and write? This is one thing that i don’t really know what to say about. On one hand, if we thing that the children;s brain is still developing until the age of 3, would seem a bit weird to teach him how to read, when he is still learning how to be human. But on the other hand, their sponge-like brains can take everything in, even this, so why not?
I understand why it is such a debated thing about education, but i also think we better let the children be children for as much as they can, because still i think they are very fragile at that early age. ..

After reading this article, I would like to say that it raises a very interesting topic - when to start teaching children to read and write? I never thought about it, but I think this period is not constant for all children. There is no need to teach child before 6 years old to read and write. In this period, there are many things that are more needed for him. The most important is to develop all the practical skills - undressing, dressing, self-eating, washing oneself, stacking toys, etc. However, if child is interested in reading and writing, we can start learning in earlier years. But we must remember that we can not force him to learn. The first lessons should start by teaching the first letters and placing simple words that are typical for primary school children and should be conducted only by fun.
Krzysztof Balawajder
Interesting topic. I was surprised to hear that children of the age 3 start to study, mothers make then learn a second language, teach these small things to be independent and responsible. I disagree completely!!! Why not leave them be free and play; they have enough time to grow up and be adult and responsible.
Children expend and enrich their intelligence and knowledge by being children, playing, listening, watching us, copying from us and so on. I agree with the part of this article, which talks about how children of the age between 3 and 5 are “able” to learn to read and write, but that it is also “not necessary”. I share the same opinion that children should play, and learn automatically things in kindergarten, without being forced to do so. Every person is different and will start to learn when his ready. But nevertheless, we teachers should know how to evaluate our learners and most over motivate them. I would like to specify my thoughts and an idea with an example of an EFL classroom for 3 to 5 years old learners. I think it is a good idea to present young learner s a new language, for example, by reading them books with images, drawing and speaking and repeating “butterfly” thousands of times (of course also explaining what it means), singing and dancing English songs. It is not necessary that they also read; because I think it is enough when they observe the written words and the sounds, because they memorize them very rapidly and have interest in copying and producing the same in at a later point of time.
Summarized, I would like to say: “Don’t force, make your students want to study!”
Mariya Ivanova
I agree with my friends that when we think about implementing reading very early we have to do it in the very interesting way for children. They should feel like reading. The lullabies like said Marjorie it would be a very good idea. If we introduce a very boring activity ,in the future they would rather avoid reading. This is the best time for developing because the children absorb the knowledge like a sponge and everything comes easy . So we should take advantage of this opportunity but not to exaggerate. What’s more I think that we have to find the balance. Nowadays I think the people expectations from children are too high and we forget that they are just kids and need to experience their childhood by playing with other children. Now we live in a rush Let’s enroll our children to English classes and Spanish classes or also to piano classes. I know it will bring benefit in the future but I don’t know if the children would remember this time of their life in a very positive way..
I think the most important things when you teach reading to the children is the interest of the children, because if we force a child to read it could trigger off a kind of mental block, so we have to develop the pleasure of reading
Moreover, from birth, children can be introduced to reading by the lullabies that the mother could sing because the lullabies are a real living language approaches.
For me there is no age limit to introduce a child if not for reading, at least at the pleasure of leafing through a book

The importance of reading from an early age is vital in terms of a childs’ progression and development of literature skills. The childs participation must be wanted by themselves to get involved with books. However the experience must be positive so the children will continue to embrace it. A negative experience will automatically turn the child away from reading. Teachers and parents are key in demonstrating the fun, importances and usefulness of reading to young children so that they can be in the best possible position they can be academically.
Ronan Mc Anenly
As has been stated so many times already the early years for a child is a very important time in their lives. This is a time when good behaviour should be modelled and carried out and where a child begins to discover different aspects of people and the world.
Therefore it is vital we engage children with reading from a young age but we should not force it on them because this would be the opposite of what we are meant to be modelling, good behaviour, and hence this will leave a bad reading experience in the child’s head. If a child wants to read that want should be encouraged and challenged at every possibility.
On the other hand if a child is not interested in reading than parents and early teachers should challenge this, How? They must model good reading by the way they read. If a parent looks like they are enjoying a book than a child will pick up on this as an enjoyable experience. If a teacher makes a book funny, dramatic and interactive through shared reading then a child will also pick up on this as an enjoyable experience.
Richard O’Callaghan
First years of life are very important in the learning process. I also agree that the kids should start reading and writing but we also have to think about it that not all kids are prepared for that at the same age. So parents should be the first teachers because they know their kids the best so they can see when it is the right time to start with some easy exercises to get the kids interest into.
I read a lot of stories about genius kids that can read and write and they are speaking 3-4 languages and playing instruments at the age of 2 or even less. We cannot take some of these kids for measure for all the kids.
So as I earlier said every kid should be treated like an individual and so their parents should start teaching them when they think that the right time
Mario Bozanja
“As a completely negative for child entering the first grade (after many years of experience) seems to be knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics (through number ten). A child with such knowledge, they are then bored, distracting others, and thus reduces the quality of all teaching. The child then (and with him his parents) usually overlook the moment when the subject matter no longer sufficient, and later the axle is very difficult and complicated”.(Words of unnamed teacher)
And here is the problem. There were times when the teachers imagined that children have to do everything well, as all know, one day all be on the same page of the same textbook, the one that is different, do not belong to this school. Should the change or go somewhere else.
These periods should be behind us. Employ such a child at his ability, to give him an intellectual pleasure in it according to his talent, it should belong to the professional ambitions of teachers. The fact that the child and his parents did not notice the moment when the subject matter ceases to be enough? again echoes the ancient notion that the task of schools is “to discuss the schoolwork” and not the kids learn. If the child already at the beginning of school can read, write and count more than ten, a teacher should be glad he did job withouth job. The “schoolwork” is indeed useless, but be able to read, write and count is something for life. And for the life should the school prepare the children.
Monika Kratochvílová
I think It’s really important that the parents and the teachers in kindergarten already start with the basics of reading and writing. You can already start under the age of six just by reading stories to children, do fun activities with the alphabet to learn the letters, stimulate motor coordination by fun and motivating activities. This is already an important beginning to stimulate the reading and writing process. But let them learn by playing. They are just young children so don’t expect too much. Children in the kindergarten (and younger) are very curious, so It’s important that you use this curiosity to learn them something new in a playful way. I think It’s like Vygotsky says: give children experiences that were within their zones of proximal development, thereby encouraging and advancing their individual learning. So I agree with this article but I think it’s important that they learn by playing and stimulating activities and that they can learn on their own level and pace!
- Jordis Leys
I think children are definitely able to learn how to read and write before the age of 5 or 6 but I don’t know that it is really necessary.
I think children should be able to learn while playing in the kindergarten and they should not be forced into reading or writing when they are not ready for it yet.
Offcourse when they are interesed in starting to read or write, teachers should give them the possibility.
That’s why differentiation is so important in education. As a teacher you should know of each of your pupils on which level they are. What is to difficult or to easy for them? And you should adjust your curriculum to that information.
It is important to challenge your pupils, not to scare them.
I have family living in America and the education over there is different from the education in my country (Belgium). My little niece is only 4 years old and she has to make so much homework already. On the one hand I think it is good because they get independent and they learn how to work autonomous. But on the other hand I think “just let the child be a child” and don’t give it so much homework when it is still so young. Don’t give a child already so much responsibilities to worry about from such a young age. Because learning children how to read or write can also have a bad impact when for exemple a child suffers from performance anxiety.
So my opinion about this article is a little bit divided… I don’t agree completely with the article but i’m also not against teaching children how to read before the age of 5 or 6.
- Tine Van Roy
There is no doubt that children should learn how to read as soon as possible. I think the first teacher should be parent or grandmother/grandfather. It is very important to give children some basic knowledge before they go to school, than it’s easier for them to participate in lessons. Even in the kindergarten children learn a lot, not only reading but also some mathematic and other subjects. First years of life are very important in the learning process so if it is possible children has to begin the process of learning how to read even when they are 3 years old.
Przemysław Ciastoń
In my opinion, the first school year (at the age of 6) is in most cases early enough for children to learn how to read and how to write. It is not necessary to learn it in the kindergarten, but I think it is great, if children are getting nosey and if they want to know how to write their own names or “mum” and “dad”. In this case, they should get support from their parents, grandparents or older siblings.
It makes no sense if parents or educators put the children under a pressure, to learn how to read/write as soon as possible. Children learn so easily in a playful way and if they are young, they really want to learn and have fun to learn. We shouldn’t take away their motivation for learning.
Patrizia Sonnek
Thank you for your very important and interesting article!
Of course, every child is different but in my opinion, three - four years is too early to every child learn to read and write (honestly, when I was three years I already knew all the letters of the alphabet). Children aged 3 - 4 years need a lot of time to play (in games often imitate adults) for proper development.
In kindergarten, children learn letters and numbers through games and songs. Sometimes they learn the basic vocabulary of English. At the age of 6 - 7 years, most children start learning to read and write.
Ewa Buraczynek
Small children I know are watching Japanese and English cartoons with Norwegian subtitles with no trouble. They may not get it all, but they enjoy it. Often the cartoons are translated in Norway, but rarely other TV-shows, then subtitles are sufficient. This is a great opportunity to learn English as well. And nowadays children at the age of three and younger often watch TV. If the parents are willing to teach their child and if the child has the capacity – there shouldn’t be any problem learning from an early age. To stimulate the brain is healthy, and children learn so rapidly! But I don’t feel it’s a must, but it doesn’t do any harm either.
And also, in kindergarten you learn the alphabet and basic English words, so you will always have some preparations before primary school
Ina Catrin Hestnes
I think when children come to the first grade in the age of around six years it is an appropriate age to learn writing and reading. Although, since a few years children in Germany learn already in kindergarten basic words in english through fun and games. That is in my opinion a really great learning effect, because english is besides the mother tongue the most important language today for a good future job perspectives.
Besides the school theories it depends on they way they pupils get the learning material interfered and the outcome of that is important. Nevertheless, in such young ages the children should have fun learning new things and should not put under so much pressure like they will be in older ages anyway.
Nina Schlipf
Thanks for this article!
I think kids should start learning things being as young as possible, but its important that we remember that each of them is different. We should keep that in mind and start with teaching them more like plaing with them and than estimate their abilities.
I think it is very important to teach reading to children when they are aged 4 – 6, or even earlier if children are gifted. Of course at first they need to learn to read short texts (for example poems for children, fairy-tales). If the parents will wait, then by the time their children start at school it can be too late.
I know few kids who started to read when they were about three years old, I think also it depends on the kid, but parents cannot forget to teach their children.
Dovilė Urbonavičiūtė
In my opinion the age of the children starting reading and writing is perfect with five or six years. Of course the fact is true that it is easier when they are younger and is it obvious that they are interested in everything new. On the other hand, I think the main problem of teaching them earlier is that it would be difficult for them to sit for an hour on the chair and to concentrate on a certain topic. In these years they are so lively and love to play with other children. I think it would be too early to try to teach them seriously. A possibility would be through playing games of writing or singing songs by reading words.
I don’t think that children of the age of five or six will be bored soon. They are still very interested in learning new things and starting to experiment with more different aspects of the daily life. In my opinion it is the perfect age to teach them seriously.
Kathrin Eggersglüß
The introduction of the learning process from the earliest years (or months) is very accurate, because the younger brain tis he greatest in his potential. It is often said that young children are “absorbing like a sponge,” both when it comes to learning new things and taking over from those who surround them patterns of behavior.
For the sixth year following the actual development of the brain, because the younger the child, the faster and easier to assimilate the new information available in the surrounding environment, as well as those which are transmitted to him in a targeted manner. Small children often seem to be too busy and tiring, and yet due to the fact that they all want to see, hear, touch, pick up, lick - want to know everything that surrounds them. If parents leave their child for a long time in the same bed with one toy it this way, by eliminating many stimulus suppresses his natural urge to explore the world. The unlimited possibilities of the young brain is further evidenced in a short time as a child masters the basics, learn to walk and talk. Looking at the whole life of man quickly learns the most and the youngest in the period (of which-we do not realize). Therefore, if child start the learning process from the beginning of his life learning would be for him a natural, automatic and effortless, and stimulate the brain at the time of his best and most dynamic development. This is what your child learns quickly in this period will be in useful in the whole future life. The later the brain assimilates new information the longer this process and it is getting harder and harder, so you should take advantage of this naturally inherent in the brain potential.

Thanks for this article!
Surely it is true, that the younger child is, the faster learn. Although in my opinion the age of 3-4 years is too early to start reading and writing. I think that these abilities are not as important as the process of socialization, creativity development, relations building and contacts with the others children. We also have to take into consideration, if theirs nervous, emotional systems or palms are ready for it. For a long time in my country is the debate about the best age for children to start education. Psychologies, educators and politicians in Poland are still contradictory on this issue. Of course, every child is different and it is hard or even impossible, to establish the perfect age.
Natalia Pająk
Without this article I would never have even occurred to think about”right time” when children should begin to learn to read and write. He would deal with it should begin by the level of the child, when talking about early reading (the basic school). If a child is active and enjoys reading the fairy tale, why not stop him. If it is not so active, I think that the age of 6/7 years is adequate.
Children are learning more faster and easier when they are small. Do we need to introduce reading skills acquisition as something mandatory ? I think it would be wrong. In this way we deprive the child of childhood. Teaching of reading should be at ease, because do not forget the fact that children develop differently at different speeds, especially boys and girls.
I partially disagree with this article because I believe that we carried away with race-faster, better. We forget about the fact that childhood is a time when your child need to enjoy it.
I found a quote in one of the Latvian magazine “Mazulis”: „Dažos pētījumos atzīts, ka apmācības sākuma stadijā bērnam labām zināšanām pilnīgi pietiek ar apmēram 400 vārdiem. Tāpēc centieties darīt visu iespējamo, lai ierobežotu bērna vārdu krājumu. Vairāk vārdu – vairāk nekārtības galvā, kas traucē zināšanu apguvei. Neesiet pārāk prasīgi, viss nāks ar laiku”. Translaion: “Some studies have found that training in the early stages of a child have a good knowledge will suffice for about 400 words. So try to do everything possible to limit the child’s vocabulary. More names - more disorder in the head, which interfere with learning. Do not be too demanding, everything will come with time. ” Should not set standards and rules that say from how many years child is able to read. A child tries to read simple words when he/she is learning to write. From my experience, I started to read only when I was 6 years old and reading carried me away, I was reading a lot and more than my peers.
Of course, the ability to read gives child great knowledge. I think that reading can irk and fatigue people who are forced to do it. This process should not be rushed.
Dana Lipinska
Thank you for such a short article.
I read it and I was back in my childhood. All I can say that if you will never try you’ll never know. But how teacher can make it real for small kid? it is impossible, because in my opinion this is due to parents. they have to read fairy tales and other stories for their childs in aim to create interest in child .
for to be able to read on his own.
And then the key of success is practise. It is really important for all next life, because there comes analysis of world, yes, I can sa so, because we have to understand it and make analysis and gain benefit of it. Reading and writing are so common but you know that, it helps to give your ideas to world also helps in creation of good leaders. there is a saying that nothing is so danegrous as leader(good speaker, that can tell and inspire you for things that will amaze you) that rules a dozens of fool people.
Lets be smart!

Honestly, without this article I would never think about this issue. I thought it just the right age of 6 or 7 when children start to read. However, it is highly individual and it would be pointless to push a baby to read if she or he is not interested. I started to read at elementary school and I didn´t miss anything
Moreover, 3 year old child is too young for reading, it should rather play and to enjoy childhood. When I have my own child I want to start teaching him the second language- English, I was advised that 3 years is the right time. But it is not time for reading in my view.
Erika Blazejova
I agree with you!
I think it can’t be bad for the children if they learn to read early. Reading is one of the best and most important activities in the world. With reading we can study, improve our imagination, know the history, the art, the cultures, etc. It gives us a lot of opportunities, we just have to take them.
Like on of the ancient Greek writers, Diodorus says “The book is the medicine of the soul.”
I really like reading and I think nowadays it is more necessary to teach to the pupils this kind of entertainment form in the time of television, video games and internet.
In this theme I like this video really much:

In my point of view it should be extremely important that also these kind of media devices communicate to the children that reading is good.
Júlia Bede
In my opinion, every child must be treated individually. Children do not have to be able to do the same at the same time. One 5-year-old will rapidly tying shoelaces, and the other not, but it will be able to read. I think more important is to develop children’s interests and follow them, see what they like to do. When the child gives a signal that something is interested for him e.g. in letters and figures, parents or teachers should to meet him and give that to him, and not the contrary, give him what seems to them that it might be interesting for him. If for a children is interesting to play with letters in a newspaper for adults, do not give to them children’s books. Let them develop their interest in reading on what them like. Of course, in my opinion, children should start to learn read not later then 5 years old.
Opinions about this topic differ and always will differ. We cannot really say what is better - or when is just the right time for children to start reading. But I suppose that the it is not just someones invention that the preliminary school should start to be attended from 6-7 years. I think this is good age to start with the process of education. Plus, we start school at 6 and finish it at 25. So, no hurry and no pushing to start studying on kids who are just 3 years old. They still have plenty of time, leave them to enjoy their games
Katarina Hurkalova
If a child shows a desire to learn to read and write so why not learn? The most important that nothing was to force! At the beginning the parent should devote their time and for example they should read books for children before bedtime. Faster learning to read, write and develop the child’s imagination help him in the future. Boredom is boredom, but most importantly that child have not had a backlog of science. If child has any skills will have an easier time in the future and will be still plenty of time to play. And if boredom is too big, you can always register your child for any additional educational or sports activities.

Personally I think that first grade of primary school is just right time for children to get to know the letters and start reading slowly. I totally agree that some children are ready do it before but my only concern is that not all of the children are. I think it can affect child’s self-esteem if he’s expected to do something that he can’t just because he’s just not ready for it. Child has to be mature and “big” enough that he’s ready to start reading because there are some limits that child can’t pass it if he’s not mature enough. And it probably feels really bad if all of your classmates can do something you can’t. And as I said before it can do bad things to child’s self-esteem and it can affects future school results of a child. And my own experience: I knew all the letters when I was around 4 years old and I knew how to read before I started to go to school. Our teacher in my last year in kindergarten taught us how to read. And I was can say that I was really bored in first year of primary school when we only started to learn the letters and I already knew how to read which I don’t see as a point of the article. I think each child reach the point when he’s prepared to start reading at different time. But school makes children in groups which mean we have to find the way that is right for everyone. And I think it’s better a bit later than too soon so I still think that the first grade of primary school when children are around 6 or 7 years old is just fine.

In my opinion, we should start to teach reading to the children when they are ready for it. Each child is different. Of course, reffering to the recent studies it is good to start as quick as it is possible.
My 5 year old nephew can read fluently in polish and english. We were teaching him letters when he was 3 years old. How it is possible? Well, we teached him by showing him cars on the streets. I have to mention that he loves cars. Each car has his own license plate. So he was reading letters on license plate. For him it was a piece of adventure and fun.
That is the clue for educators and parents if they want to teach something a small kid. We need to leave them their childhood. The best option is to teach them by fun. The process of teaching shouldn’t be noticeable.

Helena Kopka
I think that children shoul be teached as early as possible. Of course we have to take under consideration that they have also right to be young and shoul have their childhood as long as possible, but is small doses we should teach them at every opportunity. Thank to this in future learning new things will be easier for them and more natural. I also thing that children should learn languages from the early years. Because it is very important to know other languages in these days and it is much easier to learn when we are young.
According to my biology knowledge, I totally agree that children must be taught reading as earlier as it is possible. This is because the first three years of a child’s life are critical for the development of a child’s brain and it’s during this time that children develop most of their capacity for learning. However, there is difficult to fit ‘age frames’ for everybody, because children develop at different rates but, to my mind, children should be being prepared for reading well before they come to school.

Reading skill is one of the basic educational techniques. Student has to read fluently for further effective learning.
When to start teaching reading skills? I think that this depends on which mental and motoric level is a student. In Slovenia teachers has to prepare classes of reading and writing on different levels and levels are based on students’ previous knowledge. So in first grade he/she has three groups (first group: students who already read, second group: students who know letters, third group: students without any reading skills).
But I also think if a child shows interests for reading, parents can teach them before he/she starts with school. The best way to learn reading skill are games, first just games where they learn the letters and so on.
I think it is better to teach children to read from an early age because only in early age there is highest progress in persons’ development. However a proper age for reading should be reconsidered but keeping in mind that it would be early, pre-school age.
There are many conflicting opinions on the usefulness and effectiveness of Children Learning to read and write from an early age. Child before going to school science is often treated by their parents, who often try to force the child ambicional learning. Of course, some children are very happy and quickly learn and assimilate the letters and later words. Only here the question is asked whether such a child goes to school if will not get bored?
The task of the teacher is to not allow the child to boredom and lose attention. However, the teacher can not deal with only one student. His job is to teach children not to forbid them to learn. A child who comes to school with the basics of reading and writing are often distracted and bored in class, which can lead to its regression. Certain weaknesses in the domestic learning can go out and harmful to your child in later education.
This is a difficult subject to be decided whether the child going to school should know more than their peers. In my opinion this can not be prohibited. Parents will always strove for perfection of their child. One of them will teach him well, unfortunately, incorrectly otherwise. In a later result, teachers must cope with the problem of removing defects in writing or reading.

I agree with the comment written by mehpare, that the best time for learning reading is different, depending on the individual development and talent of every child. The development of every child is different, some children are able to walk before they can speak and others start speaking before walking. Furthermore outside influences of the child’s environment can abet or handicap learning skills like reading. This includes for example a migration background, number of (older) siblings or educational and social background of the parents. Like krista said, also in my point of view it is really important that parents begin early to read stories to their children. Thereby it is less important that the children understand everything of the story, the main thing is that they enjoy this time with there parents and experience ready as something pleasing. But the trouble is that many parents do not take their time for reading, it is easier to seat the children in front of the TV or paddle. In Germany some parents which are really committed send their children already with three years to courses of learning English. Maybe later in school its easier for these children to learn English but I do not know if it is good for their development. Like some pedagogs say, we should watch out for do not steal the childhood of our children.
When I was 2 years old I knew all the letters of alphabet. But I think that I just recognize the shape of the letters and I could link their voice to them. I don’t know what the researches shows, but I think that children at such young age don’t know the right meaning, because they are not capable to put letters together to the word. We can’t say the reading to this. It is just memorizing of shapes. We could start to teach the child reading when he is mentally prepared for it. It also depends on every child. But we shouldn’t exaggerate with it and teach them with educational games, because he is still very young and should enjoy the childhood.
If our child already know how to read simple words it is important to tell the teacher, that she/he will prepare a little bit difficult tasks for him, that he won’t be bored.

Question whether to start teaching children to read and to write from age of 6, as it is adopted in many countries, or whether to start e.g. from the age of 3 or less, can be only resolve by people who know development of the small children and their progress abilities.
This is a problem to be solved for pedagogues, psychologists, doctors and all the people who know well about the human body and brain activity behaviors. In my opinion, this subject is discussed more often because we want to be very efficient in work, at home and everywhere. People start being afraid of their children future because know that they will have big competition in their teenager and adult life. Parents start thinking about letting their children go to school as early as it is possible. If this is a good idea or not, we will know in dozen or several dozen years or even in a few generations.
Aneta Budzikowska
In my opinion, even though it is said that children should start to read or write at certain age, it all depends on a child, its abilities and, simply, will and need to start learning to read and write. The most significant thing is to notice when a child is ready. Obviously, it is better if it starts earlier, but there is also no worries if a child starts later- children learn much faster than adults.
Regarding to the situation of bored children who were taught how to read or write before coming to school- this is definitely a teachers fault. Solution is simple, the curriculum should be adjust to all children, their abilities, not to the average skills of 6 or 7 years old child (and what if this “average” is in minority?). Teachers and parents should observe children and have individual expectations of each of them- depending on their own psychological and physical development.

In mi opinion, the ability to read is a good predictor of a child’s success in school. Because school classes are composed of too many students, teachers do not have time to deal with all the great scholars.
On one hand, as a parent, you can make a difference, teaching your child to read and improving his/her vocabulary. By the age of 3 years, children hear spoken words by adults, stores them and, after a while, they start talking. Since this age, they become more responsive in terms of sounds, so they begin to make different combinations and, more importantly, they develop their vocabulary While they enrich their vocabulary, they give meaning to words learned and even learn to make them rhyme. Gradually they become more interested in what surrounds them, wanting to know more about their life environment. Considering this, I believe that the ideal age at which children can learn to read is 4 years.
On the other hand, parents should also take into account that if their child learn phonetics and writing by hand before going to school, the pupil will be very bored during classes, considering that she/he has to study what she/he already knows. It should also be taken into account that during the two or three years of preschool education, teacher directs more and more children’s activities, gradually putting up a more formal school work, so it is important to resist the urge of doing things too early.
Considering that studies say that for long-term success in school, children between 3 and 6 years old must be actively stimulated in order to think and talk about their experiences, it is necessary to mention that even if such discussions take place between children who have the same age, they also need opportunities to talk with adults in order to enrich their vocabulary and to better understand the world. But if children are not yet ready to read, an early start can damage more than anything else.
It is an important fact to do not perceive children as being brains supported on legs: they are human beings in the real sense of the word and adults have to pay equal attention to their physical, emotional, social and conceptual development, as well as to formal, cognitive one.

Everyone says that children are our future. Yes that is true but we should let them enjoy their childhood. Children are learning so many things in early childhood that I think it is too much want them to read and count or whatever, specially if they dont want to. Children should be just children we cant make them older and more mature then they are. Yes we should lead them and show them how to live in this hasty world but as common word says: everything has its time.

I think we can’t say certain times for teaching children to read or sth else. Because a child can learn reading when he is in 3 years old or he can learn so late. If a child is so smart and S/he has the ability to learn reading of course we shouldn’t wait until 5 or 6 age . ıt is noneless.Children don’t have to wait to school for reading. Think that if they learn something before the school, it can be good for them . They can feel better themselves when they understand that they know something about what they learn so we shouldn’t limit them in any cases.
Emrah OSMA
Well, I think it’s not about of the child is able to read when it is 5 years old, I think it’s better to watch what is good for the child.
on the first hand, a child can learn very quickly when it’s young. A child has more abilities to learn and the information get’s better stuck in their heads. The childhood is the basic for languages etc. So in that case it will be good to start early to teach children how to read.
But at the other hand, I think it’s also good to let the child be a child. That means that playing is really important. I think when children are playing, they are learning a lot without knowing it.
And also, what wants the child? When the child is really interesting in reading, stories and learning, it’s easier to learn him something. When the child is more interesting in playing with his teddy and toy, you can’t force a child to learn.
I think for both types of children, it’s important that the child it learns on a creative way, where playing is aloud!

The right age for children to teach them reading or other things is very individual. I think to teach them to read in the age before 3 years old it´s too soon. In this age children have a lot of stimuli with which they have to handle. I think it´s also not good when children can read before they go to school, because then they are bored at school and interrupt the class. I think it´s ok when children know some letters before they go to school because after that they have some bases and it´s easier for them. I think children have to play games and to be children , in the future they will have a lot of time for reading and writing. I think that nowadays children become adults so fast.

For me, the question about in what age is the appropriate age for learning how to read cannot be answered. I think that if a child is ready and has the capacity to learn how to read at any age, as parents or guardians, you should motivate and promote it. The argument that children should learn this together at school because otherwise the children who already know how to get bored is like saying that every child learn at the same rhythm and speed, which we all know is not true. I cannot stop thinking that maybe the system of starting school at the same age is not the correct way of approaching education. Maybe is should be based on other factors rather than age. There have been done exceptions in the past. Children put in a higher grade and children starting school a little later than the rest. I think that maybe these rare exceptions are not a bad idea. Maybe, just maybe we should make these kinds of exceptions a part of the school system. I feel that the system today cheats a lot of the children. There are many pupils that are constantly ahead of the class, but have to slow down the learning process because of the curriculum in each grade. We focus our attention on the pupils with difficulty following the rest of the class, maybe we at the same time forget the pupils who are already excellent?

Every child can´t learn reading and writing in the same age because of every child has different capacity, mental development. Although we know this fact, there are a lot of problems in education system. For example, in Turkey, students start to go to school when they are seven years old. Some students can learn that reading and writing but some students can not learn reading and writing. And I think this is not the student’s failure, this is failure of the education system. I think before students go to primary school, there should be classes how appropriate for the capacity of every child. This method is so quality and efficient not only for students but also for theachers.

Children are really smart and it is always easy to learn something new for them. For that reasons we can not talk about waiting for the appropriate age and mental development. If we try teaching a child reading and writing, for example, at the age of three, I believe they will easily be able to learn. However, the question should be that if we need to teach them reading and writing such early ages or children need to learn them in those early ages. I think no. Because, I believe, every age has its own opportunities and “beauty”. Children do not need to start the “life” early so we can just leave them with their toys and plays. For these reasons, children do not need to be taught reading and writing such early ages; because, sooner or later children will be taught them about at the age of six or seven when they start school. However, if a child wonders how to write and read, of course we can help and answer his/her questions.
Saliha Gökçe Özata
I don’t think that there should be an idea like: “Children should start to read before school or on the proper ages.” Yes, they can learn to read or write with their families’ support, before the school. In my opinion, if the children are taught to read in early ages, they will gain courage when they start school, noticing that they are facing the same environment. Furthermore, this fact will make their mind open to learn. Surely, they will have a wider concept in learning. In that case, teachers have a greater role to arrange these individuls in class as it’s mentioned in the article.

I heard about this innovation, but I think it’s stupid. I do not know why something like this implemented. If the child is so smart why not .. as early as kindergarten, children learn the basics of English, but it still is not reading and writing. So far, only learn to speak from eavesdropping.
A child with such knowledge, they are bored then scatters the attention of others, and thus reduces the quality of all teaching. The child then (and with him his parents) usually overlook the moment when the material ceases being discussed enough andlater axle is very difficult and complicated.
Definitely think it will be great differences among children. If the whole class can not read, and with them is much easier to work, but once a few children will be able toread and even write, it will only let outside distractions and concentrate other pupils. So I do not agree.
I think that you can not set a specific limit of time to start teaching children to read, because everyone is growing and the formation of his personality at different speeds. I think a child under 6 years of age should not be forced to learn to read, unless he wants by him self.

I think the best time to teach a child to read is when the child says, “Mom, can you teach me to read?” or “Dad…” or “someone, please, just teach me to read already!” Kids are ready at different times. The key is, read TO your child, and pretty soon they will ask. I think reading to your child is the very best way to get them interested in reading.

It’s not exactly specified when the child began to read, but my point of view about this is sooner, better. At the Faculty of Education in Slovenia we had didactics of literature. This subject talked about reading. It is important that children read quality books, not just those offered by the publishers, but especially those proposed by the teacher. In so doing, the teacher must be careful to choose the right books, this means that she/he must have significant expertise on all types of books.
It’s also very important that students read in class. The teacher has encourage this. When I had Teacher Practicum on bilingual school in Huelva, I notice that students have subject called reading. Here they read books from class library. I think that this is good for them, to read every day moreover they also like this subject very much.
We know surely that every cgildren are different. But all of the children start to go to school at 7 years old in Turkey which is my country. But I think this isn’t true. Because the students have got different capacities. Some of them interested in reading and writing than the others. For example my cousin learned reading and writing herself before her primary school when she was 4 years old. I know that caring every student in a country is impossible. But their families should pay attention to their children and then they should speak an expert. So this can be better not only for children but also for government.

In my opinion, in general we cannot say the exact time when start to teach children to read. Every child matures in another time so that is why everything about it is individual. The school matureness is enacted by the age of 6 and to be honest, I agree with this. Children till 6 years old, they learn to be standalone, keep the basic rules of behaviour and learn to have a sense of responsibility and duties. Most children in kindergarten know letters and some of them can read any syllable, but that is all. As I said, everything is individual so if the child shows interest in letters and reading there is no problem to start to teach him / her. Otherwise I would let the child until he / she starts to be interested in reading or until he / she starts to have the age for school.

I think some people have an exaggerated respect attitude over the schools. They think that making the children read is just the schools’ job.But what if the children request this action -to read-? Should the parents deny it? I think this will affect the children in a bad way. For example, if you realize that your child can eat by himself, will you get angry with him and will you go on making him eat by your help? That’s not a correct behaviour. Because some children are interested in learning more than the others. They can be interested in the letters or the numbers. And the thought about their being bored in the classroom in the case of learning what is already known is not so important. Because if this child is learning before than the others, he will probably get bored again. The parents shouldn’t make their children lose this motivation, because they may while waiting to learn. On the contrary, they should motivate them by giving them presents about learning the letters, this may be books with pictures and figures etc.and they can read with them. For example in Turkey, the age to start studying in a school is six. But there is not a scientific evident proving that a children starts to learn at the age of six. So, prevent children from learning is unreasonable.

Hard is to estimate tendences and skills at the beggining of the human life, even if it is your own child. Obvious issue for parents is to do best for descendents although to make decission when start to teach reading can be difficult. Appropriate moment is almost impossible to define for general, in my opinion is really inividual question, but trough playing parents should observe and try to involve not only imagines but letters as well. It is not good for children to start too soon, nor to start too late. In my opinion general age for start reading is 6-7 years old.

I think that every child is different and, in my opinion, the time to start teaching children to read is really individual and depends on the ability of each child. We have to pay attention to their personalities and potentials to decide about when to start teaching them to write and read. There is no doubt that each child develops differently, and so, it can be complicated to find a system that makes everybody happy. I think we should try to teach literacy from the earliest years, but in a kind of learning-playing way (with fairy tales, games, child stories…), and for me, learning through play has only benefits, and no disadvantages. This kind of way could help children to learn literacy and improves child’s concentration, abilities, creativity and develop their memory in the same time. Moreover, children are born with a very huge potential to learn, and the first years of our existence are the best to learn literacy.
Ariane Renouprez
Every child is developing differently. I don’t think there is any deadline when to start to educate children. But it think people should start as fast as they can, and i think that parents shouldn’t leave it to school only. Parents should educate, try to learn reading, writing etc. before school. And teachers should adapted the curriculum to the weakest students, that can’t learn so fast, so they don’t feel worse that other students.
Child psychology and pedagogy in recent years has taken significant steps forward. Now it is no secret to anyone that the child could start to read and write not only at five years age, but also at four and unusual case even at three years old. In some discussions are often some questions, like:” Is it necessary to do it so early?” and if it is necessary to teach to children read so early, then who is responsible for that?
Of course both parents and teacher are responsible for that. Parents at early childhood need start to read for child, because it is the best form have to provide successful child individually and professional life development. Because the parents are the first environment for the child and they need to show an example that it is very important to read, think and get to know everything. Moreover reading with interest – it’s the key of learning.
And the teacher has also a big part in the child development. They need to be a children role model, try to make interest in new things and also need to help who needs the help. Because in schools children have a lot of pressure if they can`t handle it, for example, if they cant read so good as do another child. And this is the point when teacher need to “stand up” and help to make feel interest in reading.
Reqularity in reality is simple: if the child in early age acquired reading skills, more successfully he will be at school and more higher will be his intellectually potential.

I think the ideal age of the sixth age of the children. In general, children in this age, becoming more conscious and aware of what happens in the. In other words, become more intelligent and open to communication at this age. Children under six years of age in the age of the game yet. First, children’s personalities and abilities bring to the fore, is more important than reading and writing. In my opinion, you must complete before personalities. Of course reading and writing is important, but better and easier to learn reading and writing need to be prepared before the sub-structure. Of education is more suited to be at an early age. Works quite well in the mind of children at an early age. So I think education in the sixth age is very suitable. Of course, this is my idea …

An article moves very interesting topic. Nowadays, every state makes its best to have as high educational level as it is possible. On the one side it is good, becouse the quicker children start to learn something, the more intelligent they will be after the course. But on the other side, I think that it is not so fine when children are stolen from their childhood, I mean that it is bad to treat kindergardens like a normal school when children are taught how to write, how to read, basics of mathematics, etc. The general idea of kindergardens is to prepare children to live in a society, with another children and to be ready later attending to school. In my opinion it is enought when children start to learn thins like math or writing in first year of primary school. But another thing that I wanna to say few words about is that parents should help children with their homeworks and things that they were taught in schools. Parents should not believe that only teachers are to teach. Everyone of us is a teacher for another pepople and we should not forget about it.
In my oppinion is better when kids have first experience with reading at home, not in a school. Because at home is access to kid more individual like in a school. Yes, maybe there are some parts which are telling that when the kid knows how to read before he/she start the school, he/she can be bored in a class, but on the other side in this age there is so many kids in schools all over the world which has problem with reading. Therefore I´m thinking that is better for kids when parents start to read with him/her before school.
On the other side everything depends on development of every kids separated.

The child must be hold oneself ready for the realization of learning to read and write. Pre-school period, which is ready for reading and writing if we prevent a child it can be a big fault. A child isn’t ready for this learning to read and write so much pressure to do wrong. These are same thing. But some children will be motivated on their own and they can read and learn on their own. Because this children want to solve the meaning of. Thet are the real early readers. I think seven year olds are learning much more quickly and they are doing and loving it more likely that five year olds in development of reading difficulties. So families shouldn’t force at an early age their children for write and read..

I think,we can identify reading age with child’s level of intelligence. If a child isn’t capable of reading very early age,you shouldn’t force children for read. This situation can handicap enthusiasm for reading. Also,we consider the negative effects of media on the reading and in this context parents and teachers work very hard.So we need develop a variety of methods for make enjoyable the read book.

Very intrigued me this article and I thought immediately about educational campaign, which is popular in my country, Poland. This campaign is called: ´´Poland Reads to Kids´´. Famous Polish people encourage parents to read daily at least 20 minutes a day to your children, it helps the children develop imagination and creativity. When a child hears an interesting story that asks many questions and the surrounding world is interesting. It is easier to encourage in this way the child to learn reading, which can not be forced but a child must make it fun and make a better world-world of dreams. Learning to read before going to school-so but in a fun and support for parents.

I think that maybe it depends on the parents when the children should start to read. Of course they should all start to read at the same time at school because we can not wait for other children to catch up. But I believe that if the parents feel that their children are ready then they must take the first step and try to put some time aside and start teaching them the basics.
Although I personlly think that if the child is showing signs of high intelligence at a young age then they should start reading as soon as possible and enhance their brains but otherwise let them be children. Don’t take away their childhood from them as you never get it again. But overall I think children should all start reading at the same time when they are around the age of 5.

I think it is very important to teach children to read and write before going to school. My opinion is that parents should read them since they are small children, read them stories and then they will be able to read alone. A child whose parents talk to him all the time, read him stories and singing songs, even if he does not understand everything, start talking faster than other children of his age, and from the age of 3-4 years, I think it is time to begin to write and read, because children are very receptive to that age. Equally important is to not force them to do anything that they will not do, because this process is quite complex and difficult and even if the first is based mainly on photographs that he recognize, in the games designed to stimulate them to read, is a very important step that takes time and patience, both from parents and child.
If every parent expects to send their child to school at the age of 6-7 years to learn to read and write, the teacher has not only a child that he learn to read and write at the same time, and children require exclusivity, will be easier to read with mom or dad than with your teacher.
Another reason that I think it is important for which a child can read before going to school is the time, because time is limited, a few hours a week for writing and reading not enough, plus other disciplines like math, then the child program will be too busy and children need free time to play and to do other activities.
A child who can read and write before going to school, will be in advantage over others who do not knows these things and will be easier to cope when he go to school, he will substantiate what already learned from his parents and I do not think that they will get bored at all, if they have a positive perception of reading and writing process, acquired from parents.

Unfortunately I have to say with bitterness that nowadays children do not read. Times when reading was a hobby for many children disappeared irremediably. Reading create children’s imagination, let them move to another world and build their personality. Now instead of reading there is tend to watch. Books are displaced by computers and fake intelligence. It is sad but holly truth that now children in the age of 11- 12 often have problems with reading. It is disquieting that they are not able to use the beauty of the language. We can say that it is lack in their education.

The question is very important but also very difficult. From my point of view , children should start to teach reading at the age of 6 years old. In my opinion children should focus on their creativity at the age of 4 or 5 years old, they should play the games , they should develop their imagination etc. children should let be children as long as possible. Of course, we can introduce first letter, first simple words that will be easier for children at primary school. Some say that the beast way is to teach children as early as it is possible and the result will be better in the future. But let’s think it over- we cannot take the children their childhood. It is true that introducing reading and writing at a young age can be very beneficial for a child but I prefer to do it step by step. Furthermore we have to take into account child’s abilities. Some children are pushed by their parents and it is not the right way. We cannot put pressure on our child. We should remember that learning is lifelong process so there is no waste when our child won’t start to learn reading sat the age of 2 or 3 years.

I think that learning to read and write depends of children, it is known that every humanbeing is unique, so we can’t wait that all children start to read and write at the age of 3 or 5. Of course these abilities are such what parents can teach and develop.
I have personal conact with writing, when I was 8 years old, I had problems with writing (especially with the consonats, when they are written long, when not) but I get help and now it has gone better and better.

I also think that every child is different and individual and we should take into account their personalities and potentials to decide about when to start teaching them to write and read. In my opinion we should try to teach it from the earliest years, but in a way “learning through play” in order to let them having their own childhood as well. I think that children are like a sponge, they can absorb the knowledge that we serve them very easy. We (teachers, parents) should take advantage of that and try to learn our children as much as it is possible in that period. In my opinion for a child learning through play has only benefits, it improves child’s imagination, concentration and develop memory.

In my opinion the time when start to teach children read is totally individual and depends on the personality of each child. Because there is no doubt that each child develops differently and we have to take into account this important fact.
But from my point of view it is good for children when they start to learn reading and writing at an earlier age, I mean before age of 6. It is good to start with fairy tales, stories, games, drawings etc.
Children in early age are open to informations, they are usually interested in funny games so why not…It is good to utilize their potential from my point of view!

Children are born with an enormous potential to learn. It seems to me that there are no time limits on when a child should start reading or learn something. We shouldn’t be afraid that child will lose childhood. If science proceeds in an appropriate manner, we can say that there is no difference between learning to read, and have fun. A few minutes of reading does not take a lot of time devoted to play, but only help to spice it. Early educational games increases a child’s intellectual capabilities and will help in improving concentration and memory.
According to me the most important thing in the early teaching of reading is essential to provide learning through play.

I had many troubles with my literacy training…i hated it, I never could do cursive-writing, till this day I write every letter separate from the other. It’s partly because of my fault of course, but I was in education for 12 years and the school system never aided me in this matter.
I heard parents brag about there child’s teacher who teaches reading till Christmas and to write all the letters by the end of first year…I just asked too my self: why? Where’s the rush? This is a fundamental thing: literacy…(I hated reading in primary school, because I was bad of it, but still that should never had happen.) You will use it through your life…not like sinus or cosine…every child has it’s own rhythm and the parents should feel it.
This means for a parent it is duty to show everything to there child and push the limit to that fine point. And the most important is for the child to understand the connection of the given task to his or her own self

Reading is very important for children. Reading develops a child’s imagination, expanding vocabulary and communication skills and developing memory. Every child is different, so initially you can only view books, telling stories by pictures and your imagination. It should know a relatively small child, about one year of age. When a child shows interest, it is good support him/her in that.
I found on the internet some program for reading “Reach Out and Read“ where children begin to read from 6 months! It is very interesting.
But I think, always depends on the child.

Sometime especially gifted children want to learn earlier than their peers so they can read before they go to school. But in my opinion the children should stay the children as long as it possible, why should we take them their childhood? The age to start learning is different for every child.
Before they go to school, they should do pre-reading activities (playing with letters and different shapes, telling some story, write their names etc.) teaching shouldn´t be targeted only to the reading. But if the child wants to learn, I thing, that it is no problem when he/she learns reading.

So, I think there is no such frase as »too soon« in discusion of teaching children how to read. Literracy is still not available to everyone and those who can »afford« it, should spread it to other people, especially their children. Furthermore it’s never too soon to start teaching your kid how to walk, speak, read or write. It will only give him advantage in order to improve his knowledge once he will start learning it in school.
And i strongly disagree with sentence that children with greater knowledge than others would be bored in school. It’s true that it’s teachers responsibility to prevent this and he should do everything to not let this happen, as in giving extra homeworks and exercises. Because we can only be proud and happy for one child if he has more knowledge already from before. We should encourage this. He will not be bored in school, but we have to make sure that he improves his knowledge.
For example I was learning english as first foreign language since I was 5 years old. There was a group of my 7 other classmates. And in 4th grade, all class had to start learning english, and after 5 years of learning english ofcourse we had more knowledge than other. But we weren’t bored, because we got extra exercises, we were asked questions by our schoolmates, we actually helped them a little bit. It depends on the way that teacher teaches.
So for the end, my opinion is that we should teach our kids to speak, write, read as soon as possible, because it is true that the knowledge baby gets in his first years is fundamental for his future. Babies or children if you want, they learn faster than older people. Why not take advantage of it and benefit of it?

In my opinion all children are different and their skills depends of many conditions. First of all living environment, parents attention into child development and event into future. But in every way, nowadays the new generation are developing way faster so I would support the idea of teaching children earlier or every time he is ready to start learn. If a child is clever and is interested and a fast learner, parents should force a child in any case they should try to make a decision when to start educating them.

Children has a big capacity of learning and we can use their these times with teaching. So I do not think that it is a mistake teaching before six or less. They are willing for learning about everything and they open information to understand quickly and they can. We,adults can not learn as quick as children. I do not propose that. It was proved by science. In this case there is no problem to teach reading ealier. Anyhow when they grow up,they will start to be bored like we have been bored. As a result ,I am completely agree with Glenn Doman.

I heard that children’s brain is like a sponge, absorbing everything in huge amounts. If the child’s brain is so very active in early stage of life why not starting to teach children to read at 3? There are hundreds of children books (age 1+) with letters and numbers and I think it is a wise decision to let children play with those books. The sooner they learn to read the better their progress in school will be. It is easier for kids to follow and understand the programme if their reading skill level is adequate. Reading in this society is important as breathing to sustain our lives. If we have to learn to breathe as soon as we are born, why not learn to read as soon as possible?

When we think about Children’s developmental characteristics, individual differences, abilities, and family structures ,then we can say some children are 2 years old, some children 3-4 years old may be ready to start pre-school education. Several studies in children receiving pre-school education, the school’s success showed that a higher. If parents can be as comfortable as anything about their child for to start kindergarten, the children and they have less trouble.
Lots of talk with children about the school before going to there, to introduce children slowly with the activities of school is important. For example, cutting paper with scissors, and doing smth with paint pens .. It makes him/her more relieved to see the same paper and paints in kindergarten.Preschool education completely removes the problems of reading and writing. So I think 6 or 7 years too late for reading and writing (except for special cases). When I was 4 years old, I went to a kindergarten and at age 5 i started to primaryschool.(normally its unusual in my country) First, I remember my parents lived in doubt, they wondered if they did wrong to send me more earlier. In The primary school,a student who learns to read the first was wearing ribbons. when this ribbon was fitted to me,all the worriesof my parent disappeared. It worked on me so i think it works =)

I think this article useful. No expert knowledge about this subject for me, I said things to estimate. Each child’s learning level is different, it is possible to minimize the difference.Without pumping, and encouraging way to learn how the child are interested, lack of learning or problem may disappear.Various conditions, can link the time of the child learning to read. For example, the attitude of the family, the child’s mental structure, psychological status, etc.Since the birth of, to read the earlier studies done , it is possible the child’s early reading.
e.g ; from an early age, songs frequent speeches, to play in the colorful books, to promote objects, and to awaken interest in the first stages. Then, often reading a book, familiarity with the words provided. Understanding of rather than, the sound familiarity and rhythm are important. The child wants the selecting books to read every day, go to the library together, these steps after the child starts to learn the alphabet.Obviously, the child’s reading age may be 4-5 but what it happens to benefit the future?
Child’s early learning, does not mean everything to learn from an early. My opinion is that the child should be child.Learn when it comes time to learn a complex activity such as reading already.
If I am a parent, my child sing songs, read books, play games, but my aim do not want to read an early.

In my opinion, it is better for children to learn reading as earlier as possible. When kids manage to self-sufficient,i think he/she can learn how to read or to write.Covering the period of 0-6 years of early childhood, the child develops in the fastest period,ever.Two-thirds portion of the development of brain structure and function is completed between the ages of 0-4. Early childhood experiences decisive functional form of the brain. In early childhood education is the starting point of human development. So ,a little bit earlier than 6 years old, I think that children can go to kindergarten or slots, that can be the way to start.

ı thınk so
thıs ıs very good task.Child psychologists are generally protective of children in the late development, with below-average intelligence and its individual components unevenly developed. I believe that it is very difficult to learn how to read and write before the sixth year to children which are not mentally mature for it. Lot of kids have some problems with read and write for long time during their primary school attendance
I think it is not also difficult for children to learn the reading and writing (simple words and very simple sentences) during their preschool education. I know many situations when it happened like this (so it is possible) and they really enjoyed their primary education because they were the best and could give the answers to their teacher in the primary school faster than the others. They can be “used” like “little teachers” for their colleagues and they will not be bored anymore; they will really like this and will feel themselves more important in the class.
Games are also solutions in this respect. Simple puzzles with words or simple scrabbles can be used to teach them simple words, too. The images and photos with big letters or on which big words are written can be useful as well. As a matter of fact, I think that games are very important in school all the time, no matter the age of the pupil or even student.
There should also be all the time ‘a generation of sacrifice’, meaning that we can try to apply a system when children learn how to read and write at an earlier age, and the results will help us to better understand if this is a good thing for children and community as well. The system and society can be improved with the results that will be obtained.
I also believe that even if the Parliament or other authority will decide that they should learn how to read or write at 2, 3 or 5, 6 years, this authority should never forget that no matter the age they have, they are still children and the schools and teachers should be endowed with materials and the capacity to make them understand what they write and read and how to read and write in a correct and very easy way. best regards. In my opinion, age-related learning as a process based on the cognitive development theory can explain. Mental development in order to explain the very different, and by putting forward a comprehensive perspective, this process begins from birth and continuing until adulthood period. According to this understanding and problem-solving abilities of children progresses periods qualitative improvements. Observed and features of each period include the preceding periods.

The unborn baby to be beneficial to talk to what extent, for a long time is expressed by the experts. I think the mother and father, the mother’s womb may submit their love to him by talking dolls. ‘d Tell him, touching the lives of their own true stories, convinced that the baby helps to prepare to life. Most children between the ages of 0-5 years as determined öğrenebildikleri. In developed countries, children in this age Uploading too. For example, literacy in the UK reduced the age of four. So does the United States. I witnessed the same practice in Australia. Never too late to introduce kids into bed that evening book book kalınmamalı giriyor.Çocukları. Books that have prepared so beautiful! Babies have a tendency to tear the hands of a known fact that the books. So torn cloth books for babies are being produced. Also be used in the bathroom, not torn and not affected by water production of books, children’s reading habit wins sooner, the better the supporting argument. In addition, audio books produced in the Far East, children are among their düşüremedikleri. Enhance the sense of touch, a variety of furs of animals, such as skin made of the same picture books are also very nice. A rabbit, a cat, a deer duyumsayabilmek stroking, do you like children. In addition, there are smelling books. Illustrated books, strawberry, apple, peach smell what the smell is not nice to seeDid he him in a? Thus, children at a young age all the sensory organs, the book recognizes, loves and is learning to see themselves as part of her life.

I my opinion it’s stupid when a child should learn to read when it’s 2 or 3 years old. I mean this is a child and normally you learn reading in grammar school when you are 6 years old and that’s enough. Learning is a lifelong process and we all have to learn the whole life so I think we should give the children the first six years to be a child and to learn to walk, to speak, to play with other kids, to share their toys … just to be a kid and to have fun and play the whole day, because afterwards it is going to school for more than 10 years, then maybe to university and after that to work and there is enough to learn and to work hard.
So, the first six years should only be fun for the kids, because they have to learn enough anyway.
Best wishes

Thinking over about right time to teach a child to read and write is completely clear question which already has an answer.
If we all step back and look it from the distance, we can notice that every single thing which was already done in our life, could never be learned too quick especially if we look it from the educational or professional aspect. You can only take advantages from it if you learn it sooner and then the things are much clearer and without any hesitation you can upgrade knowledge. On the other hand if we do comparison with the professional sport, all the recommendations are telling us to start as soon as it is possible. So you are never too young to start developing your skills and we have to also mention never too old! Life learning process is without ending so we should not be bothered by: when is the right time, but just starting when and what our mind sets off. As role models to our kids we should represent learning trough different never the same games and teach and show them on the fun way the things they still do not know. The capability of learning trough the different technique should involve the method of adjusting yourself in the level of child age.
So at the end worries about that the child is bored in the classroom are completely inappropriate and a teacher can always organize an extra activity for those who are wishing and are desperate to gain more, from what they already know.

: I think children are smart and they can be able to learn to read much earlier then what they do today in school, but to begin with a one year old and try to learn this kid letters, and then at the age of two make this kid read sentences, well; I just don’t agree that that is something we should do. Today we are so concerned about educating children and they start school earlier and earlier. It makes me wonder, when can children be children? When a 6 year old has so much homework that he doesn’t have neither time nor energy to play with his friends after school, I say something has gone wrong. If a parent wants to prepare its child for school and teach its child some letters or easy reading, so be it, but please, don’t forget that children has a need to be nothing more than children, and not some good intended grown up’s lump of clay.
I agree with progressive view on people’s education and its result in the future. It seems that if a child is given proper stimulation at very young age it can achieve good results later.
Another issue, is the case of education in general, it does not only take place in classrooms. That is the reason why we should give every child a mean to educate by themselves and that is when literacy plays a grand role.

Eimante
‘When my child is going to read’ is a real problem for parents.Because they want to do the best for their children and sometimes they choose the wrong way.I think children should learn reading as possible as a game.Because in that ages, children are more careful to learn everything. As Pat Wolfe, EdD, education consultant, former teacher, and author of Building the Reading Brain, reported:
Ages 4-5: learning pre-reading skills
Ages 6-10: learning to read
Ages 11-13: “reading to learn”
According to this fact reading can be taught in an easy and game way.Because we should not forget this, they are still children. Also it is an individual fact and we can not force them to read earlier.Furthermore it is possible that, early learners may be bored in the classroom while their peers are still trying to learn. But this is not a problem of that children. It is about teachers.Because teachers can interest this children to the lesson. They can make this children help others and improve their reading skills.
In sum up, government should teach teachers for this new early readers about how to control them in the classroom and families should care to teach basic reading skills.
Best regards,
Selin Dasdemir
I think the question of when to teach children to read and write is very individual and educational standards are given for a reason having regard to the psychological development of children. They are children who should not learn to read before entering school. There are children with poorer attention. It may not have directly impaired concentration, just being a little more careless and can not concentrate for a long time. Children commonly can’t pay attention for more than ten minutes. But if the child is unable to concentrate on one activity even five minutes, it is not appropriate before entering the school to learn anything. Indeed, when will know what the school will discuss, will be forced to give up work, they will get bored and get used to it that they do not pay attention. In the event that the fault was more serious, or he / she showed dysgraphia, dyslexia, etc., him/her should be in school given more reasonable care, may be assigned a teaching assistant.
The school should ensure all children a basic education including reading, writing and arithmetic. But when a child is able to read, it is good to practice reading at home. The best is definitely the fairy books, fairy tales as they are entertaining and interesting for children.
If we have a child with attention deficit, we should be in school with teachers to agree on how we should teach our children and how to read and practice reading it. If we use other methods than the teacher, it can confuse a child and then it will not know what is wanted from him.

A very interessting article, as far as I can understand the english translation. The article deals with the question if there is a fixed point to learn reading. And if it’s the task of governement and school to intervene right there.
In my opinion reading is an essential part of education, and it’s hard to learn children reading, if they are not ready for it.
Reading skills differ very much when children start school. Some are already able to read little books, other don’t even know th single letters. And it’s not just the support that the children had got before but the individual developement. In my family, for example, where huge differences in the developement of reading skills: When I started school I already read little storys and I loved it. My younger brother, in contrast couldn’t even read his own name and he felt like he was forced to read. It took him two years to get fluent and today there is no difference anymore between his and my reading. My point is that I don’t think that there is one point-doesn’t matter if it’s 3 or 6 years- where you sould be forced to read. I, myslf think, that we should give children as much space as possible to develope.
In my opinion every child is different and their skills are developing in the different ways. I think nowadays the new generation are developing way faster so I would support the idea of teaching children to read earlier. Why not? If a child is interested and a fast learner, parents should decide and notice the potential of the child. Of course, they should not force a child in any circumstances, but they should try to make a decision on when actually to start educating them.

Rosita Kausiute
Some children show considerable curiosity when it comes to writing lyrics and reading from the fourth or fifth year. Other children, even if they are later to be teachers of native language will not be ready sooner than seven years. According to T. Gould’s ability to read behaves like any other kind of talent. Some children have a special feeling for reading, as there is such a feeling for the music or rhythm. These children will then clamor for reading earlier and would be a pity to deny them such opportunity. But other children, who make up the majority, it will not soon read anything particularly good. For a child identified the letters, usually not particularly difficult for them, but to understand what reading is already complicated and requires a certain maturity.

hello
it is an important topic and has been argued so long.for me it is a difficult process because it wont be easy to put this on children but anyway,as the children are inclined to learn in these ages after a few time it will be easy.in y country reading and writing begin to be taugth at 7,but i believe that children should be faced the alphabet before that age.this will be better for them

Most definetly we should teach kids how to write and read in younger age than 6. I am not talking about placing them in front of the desk and force them to do tests or write paragraphs. I am talking about introduce them to letters, about make them feel comfortable with letters, words and sentences. And I thing it should be done in form of game, play or just simple conversation. It is possible that it will be to early for them but if not we expose them for delay in education.
All the best

It’s quite difficult for me to answer the question because I’m neither psychologist nor pedagogue. I’m not sure what age the brain is developed enough to learn reading. Despite I guess it’s earlier than 6 years old, I’m not sure if it’s so important to teach children reading in age three or four. Of course later it would be easier for them to learn more and more but firstly I would check if child is interested in reading and if yes I would teach that and if not I would let him to grow up more and spend his time on another creative activities, games and plays. The problem occurs … pupils in primary school would be not in equal level then and it would be hard to find solution for that issue. Here the individual attitude is needed.

i think this article interesting… nowadays alphabetise should not be possible if you have the chance to be in develop countries.. like spain, england, bulgarie, russia… develop countries have everything to educate kids! but in my opinion i think its quite late to not be able to read at 5 years old… i dont remember about me when i was that age but in my memories i think i was able to read .. im giving my opinion because my little brother is going to turn 6 years old quite soon and its not able to read and i dont even know if he knows the letter and i think at this ages you should be able to read and even writing! because i have a past experience meeting a russian girl who was able to calculate some figures that us werent able to do …. i think children is more capable than anything!! and read to learn !!

It’s very difficult question and I’m not psychologist. But I think best way is as early as possible. But every child is little bit different. In Czech Republic children start learning writing and reading when they are 6/7 years old. For some child it can by late other way for someone early, that is the question for parents and for teachers in primary school, they have to feel if the child is smart more than average is and give him space for his creativity.
Lukas Kramsky
In my opinion, we should start to teach reading to the children when they are six years old. Not earlier and not later. Because before 6 years old is very important for the children’s creativity.Children should just focus playing games and improve their creativities. And after six years old can be late for them…
This is very interesting subject, and i kind of haven’t made my mind about it. There’s good sides in both ways, teach child to read at age of three or at age of six.
I think that children should let be children as long as possible. But when the schools starts, kids should learn how to read quite fast. And literacy is the most important skill in school. If your reading is weak, it will influence every other subject eventhough child doesn’t have problems with that subject.
So i think, that kids should be initiate to the alphabet before going to the school. And of course if child is shows that he/she learns fast, you could teach the child how to read.
But i don’t think that every child should be taught reading at age of three.
-Pauliina K.
It’s a really important question and in my opinion, early we teach them better it is for their future. The thing is that is really good to teach them early but we have to find a way didactic to do it. The teaching way shouldn’t be too scholastic but funnier with fairy tales, games, drawings, … After that, if some of them can’t learn because it’s may be too early for them, we must be careful and don’t try to compel them. If we try to compel them, then they can be blocked to learn something and it can be a huge problem for a long time. That’s why if a child doesn’t want to learn early, how to read and write, we have to be really clever and find way to attract him like games… because step by step it’s possible to get incredible skills.
Naïma M’Rabet
In my opinion it’s better to begin to teach the children as early as possible even if all of them are completely and can be more or less open to learn. Early you know how to write and read, early you can learn new languages, read books, … After that, I think that the parents are really important to help a child to learn how to write and read because the teacher don’t use to spend a lot of time to teach these kinds of thing. In my case, I had two teachers and they never try to teach us how to read or write, but they just asked us if we wanted to take homework with us or not. As most of the children I wanted to play instead of taking homework with me and my mom decided to teach me by herself how to read and write. So now I can definitely say that is really important that the parents help their children to learn these two really important things for their future.

I think that it is important to remember that every child develops at different pace. For some children mastering literacy skills will come naturally other will need a little bit of help. However, in my opinion as children at a young age are like a sponge and generally absorb various skills easily providing them with appropriate conditions and encouraging to read would be to their benefit.

I really like this article but I have one clear view point on it. I believe that children should be taught how to read and write at an earlier age. This is a key time in the development of a childs mind; their brains are like a sponge and any information that is given to them at this age will last. They will be able to keep it in the back of their head and metacognise on it in future times. I do not think we are depriving our children at the minute by not teaching them Literacy at an earlier age but I do not see what would be wrong with doing so; surely it can only be an aid to the childs education and not a hindrance. I am all for the new education system in the united kingdom with its’ revised curriculum now fully in place. The emphasis is on play in the early years sector but I do feel that some of the basic Literacy skills are left out and we need to sustain these skills at an early age for children to develop even more. There are too many people out there who can not read or write. To me 100 people in the world who can not read or write is still too many. I feel that if a child is able to read and write at an early age then we as teachers should offer and guide them to do so.

To me the idea looks promising. The earlier we start to teach children how to read and write, the easier they will comprehend the surrounding world represented in the books and reality. In this way, children of tender years can develop effectively lots of other skills and above all imagination. There is no point in perceiving reading as an early-school obligation. It should be shown as a pleasure, an alternative key to a multitude of curious questions that, without doubts, lots of kids have.

In my opinion, it depends on the child´s personality when he or she starts learning how to read and to write.
Education starts when people are born. It continues lifelong. It is better for everybody to start early. And I think it must be compulsory for every country. It is important improvement to develop in every subject. We have to care about pressschool too much. They have to be open for everything and not try to make their child someone they want to it to become. As the text says the important point here is to adapt the true usage of the language to children’s life for the help of socialization.

In my opinion, teaching children to read earlier than at the age of six or seven is too soon. Parents and teachers of preschool can make a good start for the reading-writing process with different kinds of games and other activities before primary school, but the actual teaching should not start until the first grade. Before that learning to recognize the letters is enough.
Some children learn to read on their own, before they start school and in every first grade there are students who already know how to read and write, when others are just starting to learn. It is a fact that every first grade teacher has to accept and take in notice in his teaching. First grade of primary school is the place, where teacher has to be really innovative and know how to use differentiation in his teaching. It is essential that none of the students get bored or on the other hand feel too much pressure of learning.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with teaching children how to read at the age of 3 years. It is not, after all, about that they read and understand any 300 pages novel right now.
The idea is to familiarize them with letters, with simple words, so that later at the school it will be easier for them, for example other children won’t bother them. We know what are the children.
Therefore, I believe that parents should try to encourage young children to read, but not in the usual form, but in the form of various types of games. Yes, that should be pleasant to child, and also useful. It is also well known that this way children learn faster, so why not to use it? The same is true about foreign language learning.
In my opinion, as early as in a kindergarten children should start learning languages, because this will bring lots of benefits for them in the future.

I agree that introducing reading and writing at a young age can be very beneficial for a child.
Gaining skills in literacy can be a difficult task for children but introducing these skills to children at the age of 3 allows them more time to develop these skills.
In the earlier years of a child’s life they are far more receptive to language and absorb it passively. As we get older this becomes a harder task.
We should take full advantage of a young child’s ability to adapt linguistic skills at a accelerated pace. Teaching a child to read and write at an early age will further increase the connections in the child’s mind between the sound of words and their written form. This will benefit the child’s linguistic competence in later life.

From my point of view, it is essential to teach children read and write at early age. I think that age of 3 would be on average the best age to start this process witch higher intensity. For some one year earlier seems too difficult, for some too easy so probably the best option would be to measure somehow the capacity of the youngest for that kind of education and go through with the education accordingly.
Furthermore, I rather agree with progressive view on people’s education and its result in the future. It seems that if a child is given proper stimulation at very young age it can achieve good results later.
Another issue, is the case of education in general, it does not only take place in classrooms. That is the reason why we should give every child a mean to educate by themselves and that is when literacy plays a grand role.

The question of the age at which children should (or can) start reading and writing is complicated. I don’t have the skills to answer to this question, so I’m just going to give my opinion.
I think that maybe 3 years old is too early to start. At this age, most children are not mature enough and don’t have for the moment the abilities. But it’s true that it depends of every child. Some children are interested to try to read a book for example before 6 years old. On the other hand, maybe it could be a good thing to lead children on the way of writing and reading before of 6 years old, to arouse their curiosity for example. It’s normal that the methods of education evolve with time, so why not teach to the children a little before 6 years old. For example about the learning of foreign languages, this process begins earlier and earlier ( nannies who speaks English to the children, …) So maybe the teaching of reading and writing can start before 6 years, but not before the child gets ready, which is complicated to assess.

This subject is very important.I think all the students’ reading and writing ability is different.I mean that there are individuality.
I think the families must:
*Teach the sounds of letters together with their names.
*Teach lower case letters first.
*Teach their childeren writing along with reading.
And I invite to you, watching this video. This video is about learning reading.I think is good method.

I feel that the age of three is far too early to try to teach a child to read. All children grow at completely different rates and I think that kind of decision should depend on the stage the child is at and should not be set at a certain age. Personally I think a child should only begin their reading and writing when they go to school at the age of four or five. Here they will be more motivated to learn as they will be among their peers and there will be less pressure as it will be more of a group activity.
Thank You,
Caroline Mc Rory
I see no reason to try purposefully teach children under 6 to read if they are not learning by themselves and “by accident”. It is a biological truth that in early years they are not mature enough to learn reading and writing skills, and they don´t even have to. Why should we hurry with our children´s growth and development, if he/she anyway is likely to learn at school. And if a child has got interested in books early and the parents have been eager to speed up their child´s ability to read, the teacher should be the one who adapts her teaching program to the children´s level.
The children always have learned with a surprising speed, and they are able to use what they learned as if they had years practicing it. The sooner the better. The children are an empty hard disk, and are to acquire as much information as possible. The challenge is going to be about how we can teach in the correct way.
The problem is in what we need to teach. The children do not know about what is good and what is bad. Sometime the children can acquire bad behaviors that cannot be corrects. Also there are a lot of factors as poverty that always affect children education.
The skills of a child should be developed as soon as possible. It is amazing that a three years old child can speak English, Spanish, knows the basis Portuguese and also he can read, isn’t? I had liked to be in that environment.

Personally I think that attempting to teach a child to read at the age of three is inappropriate however encouraging a child to read at this age is suitable. Every child develops at a different pace and while it would put them at an advantage to be able to read at such a young age it is not essential. The age of three is not a time to bombard children with knowledge that they are not capable or willing to intake, some at the age of three still struggle to understand the basic concept of what reading actually is! However I believe that if a child shows an interest in learning to read at this stage it should be encouraged and supported. I do feel that by the age of five or six the majority of children are mentally ready to begin the process of learning to read and so forcing the matter is appropriate however at any stage before this it is not necessary.

I think children should learn to read whenever they want, but not too late. It’s true that the younger they begin to read the more advantages they may enjoy. But if they’re obliged to read prematurely they might end hating it. Here lies the importance of a personalized education, where kids’ abilities are encouraged at their very own time. I think the point should be that kids like reading, and that they develop a critical sense of what they read rather than to decrease the age at which they begin doing it.

I agree educating is not an easy task and so this is why I feel strongly that teachers and educators need to be patient, strong minded and determined. These qualities in my opinion are important when it comes to teaching a topic to students or even early on in a childs life teaching them to read and write. There is no doubt that every child develops at differnt times, so who is to say that every child is ready mentally at the age of three to begin reading? yes some are ready but most often than none they are not ready. I feel that pre-school is the best opition for children to casually learn to read and get to know the basics and then go on to primary school. Children must have time to enjoy education, it shud not be thrown at them at such a young age when they are not mentally capable.

I believe that when a child learns to read early it will have advantages when starting school and it will learn faster and easier because it can already read. I myself learned to read when I was four, and when starting school I had clear advantages over those children who could not read at all, and to this day I love reading. However, there are parents who force their children to learn to read early, and this can do that the child comes to associate reading with something obligatory, and therefore something boring. So children should learn to read early, but should not be pressured into doing it. It should be made something fun and encouraging so that the child wants to learn.

Ingeborg Anna Bakken
I think the important thing to remember is each child develops at different rates and have different abilities in reading and writing. Some children may also express an interest in reading and writing younger and others may not. I feel it is important not to pressure children at such a young age as this could form negative attitudes towards reading and writing and if they seem eager to read and write early, then encourage this.

Learning to read and write has always been associated with our early years of primary school.Learning children to read at the age of three becomes more of a task for us. Yes children are well capable to read and write at the age of three however are they mature enough? I think not. From my experience working in a school, a girl at only three years old was miles ahead of the class in terms of reading and writing however her maturity levels lacked behind everyone else. She struggled with socializing and was not well prepared for primary school.
However preparing children in pre-school with reading and writing may help them become advance readers in a shorter time plan. However are they not suppose to enjoy their pre-school years? Piling reading and writing on them takes the fun from their pre-school classroom.
This article cause a lot of discussions, when children should learn read and write. I think so that to start child teach too early isn’t very good idea, because, children should be children and enjoy a childhood. I agree that before school parents can teach some main things how to knew letters, or read and write some not difficult words. and I don’t like idea when parents let child to school too early about 4 and 5 years. I think in this age they can’t decide what they want, and also, it is too big pressure from parents. I think that children can learn read and write about 6, 6,5 years, before school, when they knew some things but not too much, they can fell better in the school at the first days and months. I think if child learn a lot of things so early they can be confused, and have hard adaptation in the world.

From fourth to sixth in books enrich the emotional, imaginative and intellectual world of children, have fun and learn it. Reading or telling a good night is no substitute for an audio-or videotape, but can sometimes alleviate the absence of parents. Fairy Tale for a good night is an opportunity to get closer to children and time to calm before bedtime, it would not be missed. Some children are interested in letters and numbers, and automatically begin to imitate reading and writing. So to Promote the ‘oral writing’ to tell us their stories. Would be valuable if you parents or teachers writing down (in writing or on audio-or videotape) children stories, songs, stories. Zbirajmo children’s illustration, to write or plot your book and the record of his comments in his books and drawings. Mandatory child datirajmo products and should preferably be signed. In addition to fairy tales to children read poetry to rhythm and rhyme, they are bound to develop a sense of the word that the child itself spontaneously generates. Encourage children to learn rhymes and songs by heart, to follow the reading with a finger when we read aloud together. Choosing the book with humor and Let us not only in the evening, but whenever an opportunity offers. Serve your child a chance to choose a book that he is, buy the book with him, “Let’s talk about books, to settle in the book corner and view prelista book.

I think that kids should learn how to write and read as early as it’s possible at home. In my opinion if parents start this job(teaching them kids how to write and read) children will heve better start when they will go to school bacause they during the calass they will remind that they saw it before - at home - and it will be easier for them.
There is a big discussion regarding when children should be introduced to reading. One side advocates the opinion to wait until children are 5 or 6 years old. The main reason is supposed to be if the children learn to read at an early age, they will be bored at school and prepresent a distraction for other children.
The other side support a different opinion. They believe the childs mind is like a spoonge. The more information you feed them, the more they learn. It’s Importatnt to start reading at the age of 3 with age appropriate books, or through an educational game. This is supposed to be a foundation for the future.

i think that with every new generation children learn how to manadge things faster and their development also is faster. learning to read and writte at earlyer age is just an advantige, but every child is different and the potentials are not the same. parents should recognize the potential of their child and make a decision when to start educating not forcing them something they are not able to manadge yet.

In my opinion, it depends on the child´s personality when he or she starts learning how to read and to write.
Fundamental, I think it is not usefull to face children at the age of 3,4 or 5 with reading or writing lessons. Isn´t it enough to learn reading at the age of 6? I could not imagine that every child wants to learn it earlier, maybe they are not ready for learning to write or to read.
I think it is more important for them to enjoy themselves, their families and to make new friends. At the age of 3, they discover their environment and they learn to know how to behave in the community. I think thats more essencial than learning howto read.

I think this is a very interesting article. In my country, children’s education begins at age six. Was carried out while a lot of discussion in order to send his children to primary school at age 6. In my opinion, this is not true because the children lose their childhood, very early. Each of us has a specific time to learn reading and writing. But I believe they are the children who have talent and they learn faster and will have an enormous impact on the future of the country.

I don´t think, that children should learn reading too early. I know, that the trend at the moment is to teach children all sorts of things, for example foreign languages the earlier the better, but I certainly don´t agree with this.
I think children should have time to be children and play and not be under the pressure of learning and studying before they even go to school.
Most people, like myself, have learned reading when they started going to school and I´m sure, that they all can read just fine, so I don´t see the necessity to start teaching children how to read so early.

Because learning our language it’s role of primary socialization, the parents are the most important part of it.
The child’s literacy doesn’t begin at time, when child knows alphabet and he can write first letters, but much before. When we hear him how he draws and at the same time talks about story, this is one of the first steps in the world of reading and writing.
Not school, but parents have the most important role in his literacy. This doesn’t mean that we must learn child writing like in a school, but it’s desirable encourage him through different games. More that we will read him, more that we’ll play with him for shops, offices, schools,…more interest he will show for reading.
I think that school must learn how to read in early years, but through games and plays, because knowing our own language is one of most important things in our lives.

I think when a child starts to read is individual:
One child is maybe interested in words and wants to learn to read and ask the mother:”what means that word”, another child is maybe not interested and has to pass other exercises of development.
I think parents or teacher should adapt to the individual learning process of different children:
If the child is interested, the parents could show some easy letters and words, if the child is not interested, the parents should accept this.
In my opinion it is very important, that the child is not under pressure. Children under 6 have to learn and cope a lot of things and maybe they are not ready, that s why I think, that sometimes it s problematic to teach them reading.
Maybe it s too much for them. So if the child wants to, they can be teached a little bit, but they should have fun!!
Kind regards

Experts have different opinions about when learning children how to read. I think that children are curious by their nature and the adults’ role is to stimulate them by carrying out an activity. I think a very successful and spontaneous way of learning a child to read is reading fairy tales with him/her. Thus, in a very playful way a child is subconsciously expanding the vocabulary. I disagree with forcing a child to such activities as reading. The best is to introduce the new area of knowledge through the game and allow him/her to express his/her wishes. We should always let children to be children.
Eva Verdev
Psychologists advise, not to teach children to read, if they are not interested in reading. - The truth is that for the first six years, first of all, the child develops physically, and it is the physical stimulation that effects on intellectual development.
I think that a sufficient start in learning to read is the method in the nursery school. Where five-year old children explore letters and six-year olds are learning them compulsory. Science involves the matching of letters with a simple and well-known expression for the child, such as “m” like mom, “b” like a balloon, “c ” like car, etc. Children play coming up with words that begin with the different letters. Before children begin to read the syllables, they are first spelling the different words, such as their names. The next step is to read simple words that are disyllabic.

Every child is different. Some want to learn to read and write when they are 3 years old and some of them, when they go to school. In my opinion, we should let the child decide what he or she want. If reading is for them, let them read and learn how to write but we shouldn’t force them to do anything if they don’t want to.
In my experience, when parents force they children to read before they go to school, that they will know it and will do better, the actual result was quite the opposite. Children were thought wrong, they didn’t know how to read as the teacher thought them, so in reality they did much worse as the children that at first couldn’t read.
In conclusion, we should let the children play and when they show the interest to learn, help them in a way that should be the best for them. They need at their early age, their play time so they don’t feel obligated and under pressure entering school,a completely different, educational period of their life.

When should a child learn to read and write is very individual. It depends on the talents of individuals. Still, I think that a child before 5. year shouldn’t ask to request reading or writing, if alone doesn’t show any interest. Since children at this age haven’t acquirement all the meanings of words and therefore they didn’t understand the meaning of reading or writing some words or letters and they wouldn’t be motivated to develop the literacy skills.

Children enter the school at a different stage of their psychological development, have different talents, different temperament, different tendencies and preferences like individual human beings.
Child psychologists are generally protective of children in the late development, with below-average intelligence and its individual components unevenly developed. I believe that it is very difficult to learn how to read and write before the sixth year to children which are not mentally mature for it. Lot of kids have some problems with read and write for long time during their primary school attendance.
The second point are exceptionally gifted children which often enter school with reading and counting skills. In our country (Czech Republic), there are about 2-4% of children entering school with this knowledge. It’s either by their own merit, or due to their parents. It could not happen to great advantage but also a disadvantage thanks to the standards and curriculum, children could get bored in classes and distracted other classmates.
So we are now face to problem how to erase the difference between gifted children and children who have problems and how to cooperate with their self-development at their own tempo?

My opinion is that, I see no reason why children should not start reading before, but it should not be forced. Access now our children learn to read because it seems smart is not correct. Parents should let children develop their skills according to how the child is offered to offset the situation and not according to how they think it’s best for them. Anyway, should not force a child to read while you still can not speak properly. More important than age when a child learns to read is that they learn to read properly because the books have always been important to the overall intellectual human development.

I also can’t find a reason why don’t teach children to read or write in early age. But I think that this decision is on parents. In my opinion It’s not really necessary to teach it earlier by institution way. Parents should recognize abilities of their children and base on this fact they should try to teach their children to read (write) in ages they find best. Children which have some experiences with reading or writing, have just advantage when they start to attend school. In my opinion the idea, that those children will be bored in classes is unfounded.

In my way of thinking childrens dont care about education because dosent realized what is very important in life they just living single day and dont care about future and education as well ofcourse sometimes maybe 1 children on 100 has special skills and growing up faster then other children … its up to parents what they will do with it they can improving children skills or if they wont watching children might lost this oportunity ofcourse it is individual i can give it’s all individual matter how children is developing , for example .. the youngest drummer ( he was 4 yr old ) in world came from Poland .. he has a talent and rythm but i think he needs only general education ofcourse parents would forced him to play on drums bu it worked out very nice ( how to read ,write , etc)

I think learning reading at the age 3 or 4 is good for children, but the most important thing is that they learn it trough play. We shouldn’t be talking about how we should teach a child how to read when he is 3 years old, we should be talking about how we are preparing the enviroment in which he can be able to learn how te read and teach. If a child plays he can learn much more without even noticing that he is learning. And if we just prepare the enviroment, that means that not all the children have to learn, because every child is an individual and has his own time in which he can learn the most. So in my opinion learning how to read is good only in case if it is done while playing, because otherwise the kindergarten schoolarised. While I was doing my practice in the kindergarten here in Spain I have seen how the work goes here. I have to say, that I didn’t like too much because kindergarten for me was the same as primary school in our country. Children at age 3 are sitting almost all the morning and yes, they are learning. And in this case I think here in Spain they are approaching this question in a wrong way, because I almost haven’t seen children play - at age 3? And just because they don’t have time, because they have to learn and do so many things. So learning how to read is good but only if we approach it in the right way … uf corse this is only my opinion.

On what time you start educating your child totally depends on the child’s personality. I think it is very important to live life in a chronological order. That means: don’t rush things and take the time for the different fases. If you skip or rush a fase it might have a negative effect in the following one, because the child is missing something. For example: the child already knows how to read, but is not able to make friends in class. Here the child doesn’t have enough social skills, so is in the end not able to skip a class or fase. How long these fases take depends on the child. Some kids are growing up quicky while others need some more time. Parents shouldn’t forse their children to anything, but forsing is something else than stimulating. Some children start on their own with reading and others need to get the book reached. So my conclusion is that as a parent you can stimulate your child a little in the right direction, but don’t cross the line to forsing.

I think ever child is different, so ever child has different interests. This means some children get interested in learning or reading on a young age, well others just want to play outside.
I think the parents task overall is to notice this( the interests of the child) and try to motivate or help there child when needed. Anyway it should never been forced by parents on such young age.

I am going to be a teacher and during our teacher-training I have realised that it is very important to just let the pupil be and develop in the speed that’s normal for that pupil. If it means reading in the age of 2 years or 6 years doesn’t matter, that’s individual!
And I dont believe in training children in early age to start reading, if it doesnt come naturally.
Let the children be children, because they grow so fast!
I really can’t think of a reason why not to teach children to read and write in early age - if done with consideration to child’s individuality and age. Argument that child will be bored in school as a consequence of already knowing to read and write is ludicrous. However I have not seen any evidence either way so I will have to reserve judgement.

The child devolpes individually and start to practice diffirent things in different periodes. Thats the same with learning reading. There should be no age line to start to teach the kid to read. Children always have and show different intrests and that should the parents follow.
They have to be open for everything and not try to make their child someone they want to it to become.
Of course they should keep an eye for the childs development, if we take reading as an example. Reading for child is very important and necessary.

Children learn many early social skills and manners as well as grace are reinforced in a preschool environment. It is often the first environment where they realize that they are not the center of the universe and it is easier for strangers to teach this, than it is for parents. They will begin to learn sharing, taking turns, following directions and will gain a sense of pride in their independence. If your preschool has a curriculum, you will find that they will quickly and easily learn things like their letters, numbers and other cognizant learning skills. While they will also learn this at home, often the preschool environment is more organized and clearly stipulates learning guidelines that are age appropriate.
It is important to start early to read for children. Education starts when people are born. It continues lifelong. It is better for everybody to start early. And I think it must be compulsory for every country. It is important improvement to develop in every subject. We have to care about pressschool too much.

I think 4 years old is a great time to start children in preschool. It seems that parents want their children to start so early, at 1 and 2. 1 and 2 years old so that their child has a jump start on learning. That is great, however, children are not developmentally ready then. By 4 years old, children are beginning to form their own identity and are ready to go to a school environment away from mom and dad. Even at 4-years, some children struggle but at that age, children are ready and eager to start preschool. Before the age of four, I think parents should enroll their children in play groups so they have the opportunity to interact with children. Most children learn to read by 6 or 7 years of age. Some children learn at 4 or 5 years of age. Even if a child has a head start, she may not stay ahead once school starts. The other students most likely will catch up during the second or third grade.
• From birth to age three, children listen to lots of words spoken and learn how to talk.
• Children, aged three to four years old have growing vocabularies, and they learn how to rhyme.
• In first grade children are taught how to blend letter sounds together to “sound out” words and memorize sight words. They begin reading simple sentences.
• Second and third graders learn how to read “chapter” books and read fluently with comprehension.
For children it is easier to learn at young ages than later. This statement is correct but to push them to learn reading or writing is not the right way. For example the Government shouldn’t change the educational system to force the children to lear more when they are young. Because as some of the writers before me told: Children need their childhood, to play, make some first friends and get social contacts. But if they are interested in learning at an early age they can be supported by their parents. This depends on each child because they are all different and not all are ready to read a text with 3 years. Of course when they can it is an advantage for them and the first years in school might be easier for them, but we have to consider the needs and ablities of the less talented. So it would be good to support the ones who want to read but don’t change the general system in order to give the children the chance to be child.
Best regards, Tina Lechner
I agree with the article, however we have to highlight the fact, that the whole question is depend on every single child. I do not believe in forcing the children to start to write and read before school (child needs to have a real childhood) – however some children have the couriosity to learn the letters even they are three or four years old and others have different interests and they are not intrested in the world of letters. So, let the child decide, what he or she wants – they will learn writing and reading in the school anyway and if they can read, the teacher should help them not to bored in the classroom.

: Many parents believe that their children’s learning to read at an early age than others that will be successful individuals in the future. In my opinion ,children shouldn’t start with reading and writing within three or four years because he/she who is the future than friends can get bored from courses. For example , some families teach writing and reading to their children.I think it is wrong behaviour, but the families should teach letters, numbers etc…So the children haven’t difficulty in lessons and they understand them more easily.

Based on the different kind of reactions based on this article, I think as follow.
It is already proofed that a average child learn fast on there early age. Of course there also different kind factors that a child is not be able to learn fast.
If you see for example, that there already huge kind of differences levels in the first years of a class. Why should we not start earlier with teaching the children reading and writting?
The benefits are that a child is faster to be able to read and to write. But at the other hand there are also chidlren who are not be able to read and write so fast.
So to cither the people above, I think based on each child the parent can choose if they want that there child starts on a early age with teaching them reading and or writting.
Kind regards,
Arjen Trouwborst
Teaching reading and writing early is advantegous or not.I think it is because it is a fact that children can absorb the information about anything fast especially in early ages.
Even we can say that they are like sponges, ready to absorb all the water around it.And I don’t believe that the children who have learned reading and writing at early ages can get bored in the environmet of the class while their friends are still at the level of learning, beginners.Of course, teachers will understand this difference and give the tasks these students by taking into consideration their background. As the text says the important point here is to adapt the true usage of the language to children’s life for the help of socialization.

It is good to exploit children’s potential in their early age when they are able to take and renember many social needs and basic skills and abillities.Of course it depends at individual psychologic age of children. Someones are ready to go to school when they are 4 and someones need more time. Good way how to help delayed children is make education in forms of games.

I think that it is better for children to learn reading as earlier as possible. I do not believe that they will be bored later, during the primary school because they will learn new things or the same things starting with letters and numbers, but in a different manner. The art of teaching is not the same in kindergarten with the teaching practiced in school. If children are bored in school, in general, it is not because they have learnt the same lessons before; it is because their teacher does not know how to make his or her lessons more attractive for them.

In my opinion we shouldn’t give the age line when we has to start teach our kids to read. Because we joust has to be sure our child is ready to begin learning how to read. If our child shows interest in learning letters and looking through books, he may be ready to begin learning to read. Learning how to read cannot be rushed. If we try to teach a child prematurely, I think we will both wind up frustrated. If our child has no interest whatsoever in learning his letters, then we has towait a month or so and try again. Some children are ready to begin learning their letters as young as 2 years old, while others are not ready until they are 4 or 5 years old. In my opinion we just has to follow our child’s lead on when our child is ready to begin reading.

Bueno, yo simlemente voy a describir mi experiencia.
How long were you in Éire? Marvellous place, where did you stay in Ireland? Was it a place for learing English?

Estimada Manuela:
